Quiet service to our community - this describes the Medical
Society of Sedgwick County Alliance (MSSCA). Some of us may be
educating children about Internet safety
(Faux Paux) or conducting a No Bullies-No Victims presentation in the
classrooms of local schools. Others may be leading a "Stream Clean"
with youngsters to encourage taking responsibility for our natural
resources (most recently this was done in conjunction with the "Love
Wichita" community-wide event). Some of our members have actively
collected signatures on a "Smoke-Out" petition (an AMAA sponsored
project), discouraging the entertainment industry from making movies,
which encourage smoking. All of these programs benefit health concerns
of our children in general, and our community as a whole. The "glue"
that holds our organization together are monthly membership meetings
featuring a variety of programs - whether educational or entertaining,
there is always something for everyone, in every season of life. This
is the Alliance hard at work!
Our local Alliance is one part of a three-tier organization. The state
affiliate, Kansas Medical
Society Alliance (KMSA), gives our
members a multitude of benefits, including opportunities for building
state-wide friendships, leadership training, and fundraising. KMSA has
four core programs upon which most of its efforts are focused: AMA
Foundation (scholarships), Health Promotion, Legislation, and
Membership.
At the helm is the American
Medical Association Alliance (AMAA), which is the largest, most
influential grassroots organization representing physicians' spouses
nationwide. The pro-active volunteer voice of the AMA, the Alliance is
dedicated to promoting better health, ensuring sound health care
legislation, and fundraising for medical education. Our MSSCA officers
have opportunities to attend leadership conferences and legislative
update sessions hosted by the AMAA during their term of service to our
local alliance.
We welcome you to become a part of this tri-level organization, and to
serve in whatever capacity your season of life will allow. Your
individual service will be an integral part of our community service to
promote health education in Sedgwick County. In this, the 82nd year of
the MSSCA, we continue to be dedicated to serving our community through
the continued dedication and generosity of our members.
