Macintosh HD:Users:trishyoungman:Desktop:mssca:mssca photos 9-08 027.jpgWelcome to the official website of the Medical Society of Sedgwick County Alliance (MSSCA), a volunteer health organization.  We work both independently and in cooperation with over 1100 physicians of the Medical Society in the greater Wichita, Kansas area. Our mission is two-fold: promoting good health in our community and forging  strong bonds within the family of medicine. Membership is open to physicians and spouses at all stages of career development: medical student, resident, practicing and retired. You are welcome to inquire about membership by contacting us through this website.

We give in many ways to the community. Some members educate children with the “No Bullies-No Victims” presentation in local schools. We also distribute a learning booklet entitled “Hands are Not for Hitting” to schools and social service organizations.  Over thirty members are regular drivers for the Senior Services of Wichita program “Meals on Wheels”,  and we lead a "Stream Clean" of Gypsum Creek in east Wichita, with members and youth organizations working together to beautify and preserve our natural resources.

In recent years some of our members actively collected signatures on a "Smoke-Out" petition, discouraging the entertainment industry from making movies which encourage smoking, and some spearheaded the Kansas Breast Cancer Research and Outreach license plate.  We have also participated in school Health Fairs and emphasized the importance of exercise and healthy eating habits.

Our efforts also go towards supporting the medical family. We encourage families with young children to network, and we promote “Team Alliance” by walking or running in various community health-related events. We know that friendships and mutual respect are vital to feeling connected,  and we strive to promote that support  within the medical community.

The "glue" that holds our organization together are monthly membership meetings featuring a variety of programs, plus weekly emails and monthly newsletters that help us stay connected. Whether educational or entertaining, there is always something for everyone, in every season of life.  This is the Alliance hard at work!

Our local Alliance is one part of a three-tiered organization.  The state affiliate,
Kansas Medical Society Alliance (KMSA), gives our members a multitude of benefits, including opportunities for building state-wide friendships, leadership training, and fundraising.  KMSA has four core programs upon which most of its efforts are focused:  AMA Foundation (scholarships), Health Promotion, Legislation, and Membership.

At the helm is the American Medical Association Alliance (AMAA), which is the largest, most influential grassroots organization in the country. Its members are men and women who care about improving the health and safety of their community while networking with other members of the medical family. It is dedicated to promoting better health, ensuring sound health care legislation, and fundraising for medical education.  Our MSSCA officers have opportunities to attend leadership conferences and legislative update sessions hosted by the AMAA during their term of service to our local Alliance.

      W
e welcome you to become a part of this tri-level organization, and to serve in whatever capacity your season of life will allow. Now beginning our 83rd year, the Medical Society of Sedgwick County Alliance will continue serving our community and the family of medicine through the dedication and generosity of our members.
